Guests enjoying a stay at our White River lodge are just a short drive away from one of the area’s most exciting things to do.

Skyway Trails is one of the recent unique activities to come to the Hazyview area and it gives you a unique opportunity to see Hazyview’s enchanting forests from above. Apart from the spectacular scenery of the area, there is also a stream running down to the Sabie River that also cuts through the trail, creating a spectacular atmosphere calmed by the sound of running water.

Flora and Fauna

The area faces south and because of this it is protected from the hot Northern sun and the result is a constantly moist climate.  Here you will be able to see a number of endangered plant species which includes a rare orchid, one of only two recorded in Mpumalanga.   The forest is also home to a number of birds, some rare and some more common.  The forest floor is alive with animals such as bush pigs, bushbuck and even the rare red duiker.  It is not uncommon to find Vervet monkeys enjoying the fruit from the trees in the valley.

At Skyway Trails you have a choice of two different ways to have the experience of a lifetime. Both of these activities are ideal for outdoor family fun.

Safety First

The “Aerial Cable Trail” is the longest Aerial Cable Trail in Mpumalanga.  Safety was key in the design and construction process; it was built according to the South African Civil Engineering Standards with all the equipment designed specifically for the activities at Skyway Trails rather than being copied from similar establishments.  This is a first of its kind in South Africa that was built to European Rope Course Standards.  The safety system is one of the latest and was imported from Switzerland.

The Last Forest

This thrilling experience gives you the freedom to glide majestically over one of the last remaining natural forested valleys along the Sabie River. On your way down to the valley basin, there are elevated platforms upon which you can stop on to admire the spectacular scenery. There is an abundance of bird life, making this a different way for avid birders to view the birds.  From the platforms, you can also stop to just take in the unforgettable views of the forest below.

The trail is 1.2 km long, and has a total of 8 zip lines with stops at 10 platforms along the way.  The distances between the platforms vary from 70 meters to 230 meters.  The trail takes more or less 2.5 hours to complete.

Put your skills to the test

Another activity at Skyway Trails is the Tree Top Challenge which is an elevated obstacle course.  Here your skills will be pushed to the limit while you move between interconnecting poles or trees that are the supports for the obstacles.  This activity is a glorious jungle gym for adults and children.  Along the course, you will be challenged by 19 different activities that are made up of balancing beams, rope bridges, spider’s webs etc. and the grand finale is a 50 meter zip line.  This activity takes about an hour to complete.
